Japan evokes such artistic imagery in everything from their food, their dress and even the landscape. In springtime the cherry blossoms simply explode. While in Kyoto I was invited to enter the mysterious world of the Geisha artisans and access some private time with the girls as they prepared for their evening. Despite their ephemeral beauty these girls train hard for twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week for about five years studying the formal arts such as dance, music, poetry. Sanbon Ashi is a special design of unpainted skin on the back of the neck for in traditional Japanese aesthetics the most alluring part of a woman is the nape of her neck. This from a culture that always seems to find beauty in the most unexpected of places.
