Bettles, Arctic Circle, Alaska. Jean Stevens, a native Eskimo woman. I was photographing a story on the coldest places on the planet, Bettles being one of them. It was so cold my eyelashes froze. The northern light show was breathtaking but living here is not for the faint of heart. Jean, at 77-years-old, still runs the local post office and tears around on her snow mobile delivering mail.
