A young boy gets his head shaved by an elder fellow monk. In this predominately Buddhist country, every Burmese male is expected to take temporary monastic vows twice in his life: once as a samanera or novice monk between ages five and fifteen and again as a pongyi sometime after twenty. Some spend between a few days and three months; others are ordained for life.
