Ma Khin Thein, Incense Business in Yangon, Myanmar
Ma Khin Thein supervises eight employees while running a small incense business in her home. “When my husband died of cancer I found myself a widow with five family members to support. I was able to secure a microloan for US$300 and buy materials to make the incense, such as sticks, powder and charcoal. Running the business from my home gave me low overhead costs. We supply to individuals and dealers to sell our products, making about 199,805 Myanmar Kyat (US$150) a month. I feel grateful that despite some hardship I’ve managed to be self-sufficient.”
